I've been in Central Park a lot because I was away for a while and the weather has been glorious. I know sort of where every favorite spot is but not the exact location. I try to sense who lives in Manhattan and is likely to tell me exactly where to go. My sense of middle Americans is accurate. I keep bothering Europeans from major cities such as London and Copenhagen where Balto the dog is. It is hard to find native Manhattan people. The tourists are here and spending big.

The greatest danger to pedophiles comes in prison from hard core ax murderers and serial rapists. Why are such dubious specimens of humanity so offended by the acts? I don't know. Guards can't keep them safe or maybe there is not much incentive to keep them safe. Full of questions.

When I was twelve and in the full grip of Beatlemania, there was a presidential election. The NYT had a newsticker on their bldg. at Times Square. It was a family tradition to view the election results. I think one of the candidates was in Manhattan so there was a lot of excitement. A BBC news crew was reporting. They were middle aged to me. I so much wanted to know if they met the Beatles and what they were really like. My parents encouraged me to ask. The BBC team was so nice. They did meet the Beatles on assignment.
How many times have Americans dined in the private quarters at the White House? I would be interested if you ever met the royals or a prime minister. Heck, the tourist money is always handy. I wonder if Americans aren't more royal crazy b/c we have none.

I wish I could describe the wealth of research libraries in the NYC area. Free. Scholars travel from around the world to use our resources. Use of a library card insults our intelligence. Also, the research libraries are co-ordinated. The universities have open stacks and aren't honest about how many books are stolen. A phone call or fax can produce a book from another library. The main NY public library at 42nd St. with the famous lion statutes is closed stack. If I heard library card as an excuse in a KH, I think I might be arrested for the consequences of rage. I may do stupid things but a library card is so insulting. Use a better crafted lie. If a Witness truly believed the library card scenario, we are dealing with someone who has never been to a library.

Terminology the Society Hates?
by toweragent inin my most recent talk, i got counseled for using some terms that were not prefered.
for example i said "new testament" rather than "the christian greek scriptures".
i also used the term "gospel", but even worse, i made reference to the "synoptic gospels" and the "gnostic gospel".. i guess i never thought of it before, but when i looked at the societies information on the matter they always say things like, "the so-called new testament..." or "the so-called synoptic gospels..." why with all the "so-called?".

If Witnesses lived in special compounds, the way some Mormons do, it might make more sense. Not saying "good luck" or "God bless you" with others isolates us further. I used to use what the Society terms Christendom terms with others and then used "theocratic terms" with Witnesses. The inevitable problem is you slip up. All the Witnesses look at you in absolute horror as tho you are a mass murderer. Language changes over time. Atheists say "God bless you." Because a word meant something hundreds of years ago does not mean people mean it now.

Oh, yes! Constantly. It isolates Witnesses from the rest of the world. I did not realize gospel was wrong. Special language is part of cults.

So I'm going through a really difficult time right now.
by scaredtospeak ini was publicly reproved last year and the elders have taken their sweet time in reinstating my "privileges".
it's been six months and i can't answer at the meetings or participate in the theocratic ministry school.
in all honesty- i don't care about the privileges.

I am 62 now and remember my own struggle. My father was very big and abusive. I had to attend at risk of death - no fooling. When he died, I was already versed in protest songs and ideology behind his back so I screamed at my mother that if she wanted me to attend another meeting she would have to have the Newark, NJ police take me in chains while I sang protest songs and went to court. Older teens have some legal rights. It was weird b/c she was scared of me. I was serious. No judge would issue a court order to have me arrested to go to KH-I don't think I never researched it. My siblings and mom went to KH that night and never went to KH again. I stayed home and played rock music with the phone number for the ACLU students rights lawyers close at hand.
I've met people here whose parents kicked them out at a young age. The problem is life seems so slow when you are a teen. I suggest preparing yourself in every way now. You can pay attention to school work, make worldly friends at places your parents can't trace you. So when freedom arrives, you are more prepared. I would knock the age down so that minors have more religious rights. Sadly, I don't think legislators agree with me. Cherish freedom of thought.
Outside of the Witness context, however, my parents taught me good values. Pick and choose wisely.

I know the UN does many good things that are not evil. The Witnesses repeatedly asserted how evil it was. I recall the many illustrations of the UN in the WT. By their own terms, they violated their own rules. I am not certain of all the full implications but a library card is no excuse. These facts need to be repeated for newcomers. When I first came here and read that the WT had NGO status, my eyeballs popped out. I thought I was hallucinating.
The Witnesses are a new religious movement. Consistency in teaching is a hallmark of older religions. Personally, I used to love visiting the UN. I dreamed of being a female tour guide. Americans were not welcome, though. The tour guides wore nifty uniforms and looked beautiful. It is a wonderful place to view modern 1950s architecture and art b/c it was good quality in the first place and the arts people have preserved it well.
The UN as pure evil was such a basic teaching for so long I thought perhaps I was hallucinating when I first read the info. here. It made no sense but that is part of the larger problem. No common sense and no consistency. Other religions might change doctrine after hundreds of years. For the Witnesses, you would need a super computer to keep up with the changes. Is truth so malleable? If they would admit they were wrong and human, it would serve them better. Jesus did not jerk his audience around every few days the day the Witnesses do. God should not be so caught in secular time. Also, as Spock said in a relatively recent Star Trek film, "Why does God need a space/star ship?"

Yes, I think No. Korea is a good example of what life would be like under the GB's "theocratic rule." Well, fts, you are in Asia, what do you think is happening? Also, if the NSA can invade my civil rights as an American by listening to any old phone call, I suspect all the Western and Chinese intelligence services know the answer already. I don't understand why this is so closely held information. The secrecy may make it more important than it is.
